Riley Richards AKA Rick Ryder
Staff Sergeant (Last rank held)
Alliance Renegade

Quote: "Alliance, Independents... About the only difference is the amount of credits."

Physical Description
Rick is a physically imposing man. He has the air of a military
trained man who keeps himself, hair, and dress in order. As of late,
he mostly looks tired all of the time. Rick wears what he can, but he
is partial to his long brown coat and always has an Alliance issue
utility belt/holster with an Alliance issue blaster. He also has an
Alliance issue short barrel Gauge blaster strapped to the calf of his
leg. The rest of his outfit is whatever he can scrounge up.

History
Rick grew up in the Core Planets, and believed the Alliance
propaganda machine as the word of God. He joined the Alliance as soon
as he was able, and excelled so much he was placed in a Special
Operations unit. The Ops was his life. Then came the war.
Rick ran a unit and became a bit of an Alliance favorite. His unit
was highly decorated, and efficient. Then towards the end it came
crashing down. His unit was ordered to destroy an Independence
stronghold on a backwoods planet. As they approached, it was learned
that the stronghold was a refugee orphanage. Rick reported this to
his Lieutenant who reported to command. It didn't matter, hey were
ordered to blow it to hell. Rick refused, the Lt. threatened, and
before he knew it half the squad was divided and the Lt. was lying in
a pool of his own blood.
Rick and half his unit ran and went AWOL. The orphanage was still
destroyed. As the war came to an end, the Alliance blamed Rick for
the orphanage and he and his unit were branded war criminals by both
side. The unit separated and went their own way.
Rick has spent the last years hiding and surviving as best he can. He
has chosen to hide in the outer rim. He never knows who to trust.
Some would turn him into the Alliance, and other Independent
sympathizers would just hang him for being him.
Rick took refuge upon the Firefly Transport Monarch. There he found a home, and the Captain Dickens a true friend. Dickens accepted Rick for who he was, not for what they said he was. He had found a home on the Monarch.
Then the unthinkable happened. Monarch was boarded while Rick and Gibb were planetside. Most the crew was killed or lost, including Dicken who was so badly wounded he had to be put into stasis. Upon there return to the ship, Rick took it upon himself to nurse the old boat to Persephone.
There he made a pact to himself to keep Monarch flying, and live out the Dream of Dickens. To make a home for those who had no other choices. He gathered what was left of the crew, and took on more. Come hell or high water the Monarch would take the sky.
