History: Dante was born on Persephone
to an Ex-Shepard and "reformed" companion. Growing up, one could never tell of his parents previous professions. As he grew
it was apparent he like to wander and explore. There was another side, though. Even in school he became a protector. He was
the one kids came to to escape bullies.
When he became an adult, Dante joined as a Deputy patrolling the docks with
Alliance Soldiers. It seemed only a matter of time before he was to be drafted. In Dante's opinion the War was as stupid as
they come. If they wanted Independence from the Alliance, let them. Then he met Mary. It was love at first sight. Within a
month they were wed. A weak later he was drafted.
Dante finished Basic Training and was shipped to Serenity Valley
as reenforcement. Dante stepped from th drop-ship, took two steps towards the valley, and was recalled. The war was over.
Later he would find out it was over just for him and his comrades. For the Browncoats, it would never be over.
Dante
returned to Persephone to be a husband. Mary and he celebrated his return. Dante was sure he would never be as happy as then.
He was right. Dante returned as a Deputy. While on patrol, he was investigating an illegal salvage ship that had touched down
at the docks. As it turned out, the ship was legal, but in violation of safety laws. It was a clap trap. Dante felt for the
Captain who had fallen on hard times, and let him slide under the orders he lift off. The grateful pilot did. Kind of. The
ship blew a thruster valve and banked heavily. The pilot could not regain control and it hit the dirt. The crash took out
several buildings, including the clothing shop his wife worked in. There were twenty two casualties and another twenty hurt.
Mary was one of the victims.
After that, Dante packed up and booked passage on a ship. The Brutus brought him around
the Verse, but he could never feel settled. Than he heard the Alliance was contracting ships to enforce the Rim. He pooled
all his money and bought a Stingray Class from the Alliance surplus. The Alliance outfitted the old boat, and sent him to
Patella Drift to start his duties.
Final Post: There was shooting.
Why was there shooting? Mary? is that you Mary?
Dante was only vaguely aware that he had been picked up and rushed
into another direction. It didn't matter, because he was floating. His whole body tingled with a feeling of nothing.
The
burning in his back was gone. Replaced with nothing but unusual numb feeling. As if a dentist were working on his back with
Novocaine.
His life was never supposed to be this way. It was supposed to be on Persephone with Mary. Taking care of
Del, and raising fat little babies. It was supposed to be simple.
"Del..." He croaked out. Every sound he made like
lifting tons of weight. "I love you, Del. Mary loves you..."
He was aware of the bustle around him. Dante smiled. They
were a crew.
And that was the last thought he had as he closed his eyes. It was a good thought. Oh, what a long strange
trip it's been.
"Dante?"
"Yes, Mary."
"I missed you. Welcome home my love."
Dante took one last
breath, and followed his bride home.
