The Lotus is a privateer ship contracted by the Alliance to enforce Alliance
interests around Patella Drift and the surrounding Rim planets. It is a slightly different perspective than Joss Whedon created,
one of fronteir law with an old west posse feel.
She's a ship of different personalities that must do a job. The
Lotus will tame the wild Rim where credits run the 'verse and the law lies stagnant. Alliance hardcore, ex-Browncoat,
or just in it for the paycheck, this crew must come together in order to secure the future for God fearin'
folk out to make an honest living.
The Lotus' creator, Captain Dante Bishop, hired on his first crew in June 2004. Their premier mission was a colony ship rescue and slaver thwarting.
That initial foray into law-keeping went fairly smoothly (or at least, no one got shot but the Captain), but it was evident
that the rag-tag crew would need training.
During a layover and restock on Patella Drift, Captain Bishop and
five other crewmen were shot by unknown assassins. Bishop was the only fatality. The death of the Captain destroyed
his brother-in-law and Lotus mechanic, Del Harris. Although officially the new owner of the Lotus, Del was unable to handle the day-to day operations of the
ship. So, the devastated crew were left to carry on under the somewhat less than sure leadership of Bishop's
First Officer, 'Dicey' Farren.
