History: Jaguar was born in space aboard an independent light hauler named the Ptolemy. At the time, her parents were mercenaries, working to minimize smuggling operations around Boros.  Profit levels were particularly high, bringing a higher level of attention from the Alliance than the planetary government really wanted.

Until she was ten years old, Jaguar was raised in space and schooled by her parents and the crew of the Ptolemy.  This gave her a strong level of competence with ship-board functions, but little social skill among people much more diverse than the crew.

When hostilities between Boros and the Anglo-Sino Alliance began to heat up, the Ptolemy was overhauled into a light transport and pressed into service with a defensive contract.  Jaguar was sent to live with her mothers' sister, on Osiris.

Thrust into a new environment with more social contact with more people than she'd ever seen at one time, before, Jaguar became antagonistic and insular at the same time.  She soon learned that the only way to defend yourself against other people's aggression was to strike first.  This got her into several situations that led to her being shipped off to another family-relation on Osiris.   This family was even less able to deal with Jaguar's behavior, and Jaguar was taken to a Blackout Zone and sold into slavery.   She was purchased by a wealthy man to serve upon an estate in Bellerophon.

Li Pu was a kind and gentle master, but he instilled in Jaguar a level of discipline she had not had before.  His kind treatment and gentle rebuffs served more to mold her into who she is today than any of her previous guardians.

Li Pu was a retired doctor, unable to continue surgery due to Kruschev-Meyers Disease, a degenerative neural-muscular condition that still has no cure. Jaguar's belligerence intrigued Li Pu and he spent more time watching the young woman than she had ever expected.  When it came time for schooling, he discovered she had an IQ well above the standard norm. Perhaps it was this that prompted him to attempt to train her for more than life as a hand-servant.

Initially, Jaguar resented Li Pu, but after a year of serving on him, she grew accustomed to his demands.  Foremost among her passions were the puzzles he often mulled over--sometimes far into the night.  Sometimes, if Li Pu was feeling particularly companionable, he would invite Jaguar to sit with him and meditate on the puzzles.  All things, Li Pu said, wanted to be whole.  It was their responsibility to figure out how to make this happen.  It wasn't for several years that Jaguar realized Li Pu wasn't just talking of the puzzles.

When Jaguar turned 13, Li Pu asked her if she would like to study more, to become something more than she already was. Jaguar  chose medicine--as much to honor Li Pu as because she saw biology as the ultimate puzzle.   It was through Li Pu's patronage that Jaguar started medical school. Unbeknownst to her, Li Pu also pulled some strings to ensure she would stay out of the Unification War.

Jaguar soon excelled at most of her classes.  Often, she would consult with Li Pu and receive a training and guidance wholly separate from the proscribed methods of the Alliance.  While Li Pu supported the Alliance bid to integrate the Independent worlds into a whole, he was still inclined to use holistic techniques that had been written off by the Alliance as unpredictable and branded as illegal.  This gave Jaguar something of a cavalier reputation in medical school.

During third-year, Li Pu died on his estate in Bellerophon.  His estate was bequeathed to distant kin, and much of his belongings were divided among family Jaguar had never seen nor heard of.  The continuance of Jaguar's schooling was seen to and a small sum had been set aside for her, including most of Li Pu's medical data-library, some of his notes and journals and a certificate of freedom.

Jaguar did her internship at AMI, and started an underground clinic of holistics with her own funding.  She charged only what was necessary to maintain the clinic and equipment.  But within a year, she had too many clients and was forced to close down the clinic to avoid undue attention by the authorities.

Jaguar graduated Cum Laude, and was posted to Persephone. Immediately after her graduation ceremony, she was approached by a Martin Wu, captain of the Free-transport Ptolemy.  He claimed to have known her parents and was contracted to see that she received her inheritance.  The captain was not one she recognized, but she knew the Ptolemy.  Capt. Wu gave her an access card to a Bank on Boros, and a data-tape of her parents and her when she was a toddler.

Capt. Wu told Jaguar that her parents had died defending Boros from the Alliance aggression and that they were heroes, even if history painted the brown-coats as villains.

With time to herself, Jaguar felt a swelling of grief such as she
hadn't felt in years.   Li Pu had been the closest thing to a parent that she remembered, but these--Michael and Zsusana--were her blood.  How could there not be a debt there?  a calling?  Captain Wu wouldn't have come to her then had it not been meant to be...

"The universe and everything within in yearns towards wholeness."
Jaguar recalled Li Pu's words. "When faced with a choice of equal or confusing values, listen to the universe.  Take action that moves towards wholeness." She began to feel that Persephone was the wrong choice.

Jaguar intended to find work aboard a ship...  She wasn't sure where, but she felt that  she would know  the opportunity when it presented itself...
Jaguar booked passage aboard the Ptolemy.
