Jack MacQueen
Pilot
"Okay, let's gets this mother out of here while our
asses are still attached."
|
Gender: Male
Age: 37 Height: 6'2" Weight: 185 lbs Hair: Black Eyes: Blue
Physical Description: Jack is a man who seems to
be comfortable in his own skin. He has a well-toned physique with defined but not bulging muscles. His posture is typically
erect (not stiff) and his walk has a definite swagger to it. Women seem to find him appealing even though he doesnt go out
of his way to attract them; its something about the sparkle in his eyes and the easy, crooked smile he wears most of the time.
He keeps mostly-dark hair in a utilitarian crew-cut. A sprinkling of gray can be seen at the temples, but as with the fine
lines at the corners of his eyes, it simply adds to his appeal. Even if he shaves in the morning, he has stubble bymid-afternoon.
Like
his personality, Jacks clothing tends to be practical and easy -- boots, cargo pants, loose shirts and jackets -- but one
can easily imagine him in a military uniform. His long-sleeved shirts and jackets conceal significant fire scarring on his
left side that extends from mid-neck down across his shoulder and onto both his chest and back. While it is unattractive,
it does not seem to affect his mobility.

Personality/Roleplaying Tips: *
All business when in the pilot's seat. Doesn't like "back-seat piloting" unless it comes from someone with
as much or more experience as him. * Very social off the job. Loves a good
meal, a stiff drink, and a spirited game of chance. * Has a sarcastic sense
of humor that can be quite biting when he's irritated or annoyed; luckily, that's not all too often. His language can be a
bit peppery, though he prefers an elegant insult to a crude one.
* Confident and internally motivated;
doesn't seem to need much praise from superiors.
* Doesn't volunteer information about
himself, yet doesn't hide from direct questions, either. * Loyal to those who
are loyal to him; will put himself out for others who have his trust. Honors his commitments and contracts. *
Will admit when he doesn't know something and will not hold back when he does.
* Likes
to read when he can't sleep; occasionally has bouts of insomnia. He has a preference for poetry.
Private Motivations (not known by most characters):
* Jack is afraid of fire,
and frequently has fire-related nightmares. It is the one thing he keeps absolutely to himself, and is one of the reasons
he tends to shy away from serious relationships.
|
Skills/Abilities: * Jack is
a superb, Alliance-trained pilot. He is qualified in a number of spacecraft/aircraft and is not too shabby with ground vehicles,
either. * Jack met the minimum qualifications for weapons skills required of
Alliance military pilots, but he prefers a shotgun or other weapons that don't require much aim and/or finesse. * Jack has some knowledge of starship engineering and mechanics, mostly the kind that would
let a person make quick-and-dirty repairs to get to a port. He's also a passable navigator, if needed. *
Since he was raised on a farm, Jack knows about planting, animals and other agricultural matters. * Jack has a natural gift for mathematics.

History: Jack MacQueen
was born in a traditional Scottish agricultural community on the planet Londinium. He was the youngest of four brothers, all
of whom were taught to work the land from the time they could hold tools. The richness of the earth had a certain appeal for
Jack, but it was nothing compared to the lure of the stars shining from the inky blackness of the night sky. He dreamed of
someday going up among them. His mother was sympathetic, but his father wanted all his sons to stay grounded in the close-knit
community. A constant undercurrent and point of contention in the MacQueen house was the power of the conglomerate companies
and the second-class status of people who worked the land (which in later years led to a quiet sympathy for the browncoats
among some family members).
When they grew up, Jacks middle two brothers (Griffin and Coll) did indeed stay home on
the growing farm with their parents, wives, and children, while Jack and his oldest brother (Gavin) both joined the Alliance
military when they turned eighteen. Gavin preceded Jack by six years, choosing ground forces, while Jack followed his passion
and entered pilot training. It turned out that he was quite gifted in that area, and he was promoted quickly, finishing officer
training shortly before the outbreak of the war.
The war took Jack from one end of the universe to the other. He was
never a rabid advocate of unification; he had made a commitment with his enlistment and he was bound to honor it. Jack also
didnt inherently enjoy the fighting and killing, but he found the constant challenging of his skills exhilarating. Then, after
the Battle of Serenity Valley (where his brother had distinguished himself), the evacuation shuttle Jack was piloting suffered
a critical mechanical malfunction that resulted in a devastating crash landing. The resulting fire spread quickly through
the remnants of the ship and Jack was badly burned. Many people told him he was lucky to be alive. After a few months he actually
came to believe it. Still, feeling that his obligation to the military had been paid in full, he retired from the service
and sought a position as a civilian pilot. Living life on his own terms while doing what he loves is his current goal in life.
